Veneers AT SENECA RIDGE Dental
Veneers could be the solution that enables you to have your very best smile.
Veneers are a thin layer of material which is placed over a tooth to provide either structural protection to a damaged tooth or to improve the aesthetics of a smile. The most common reasons for receiving a veneer involve tetracycline staining, crooked teeth, small lateral incisors, or if a patient wants to improve the shape or color of their teeth. |
direct veneersDirect veneers involve using a composite material to bond to the tooth directly after an initial preparation of the tooth. The composite material is then shaped to a suitable form and bonded to tooth. Minor imperfections of a tooth may be correct using a composite filling, or a direct veneer. Direct veneers are often slightly less costly than lab fabricated or indirect veneers as they do not require impressions or multiple visits.

indirect veneersIndirect veneers are composed of a porcelain or ceramic material which is cemented to a tooth. The preparation for an indirect veneer is the same as the preparation for a composite veneer, as a minor reduction of the tooth surface is required. After preparation of the tooth a digital impression is made using an intraoral scanner, which generates a digital model of your mouth. The veneer is designed on a computer, and the design in sent to an in office mill for fabrication. At many other dental clinics the manufacturing of the veneer can take up to two weeks at an outside lab. At Seneca Ridge Dental we are able to manufacture a porcelain veneer in-house using our Cerec machine. This allows us to produce the veneer at the time of your visit so that only one appointment is required. After the veneer is manufactured it is cemented onto the tooth by Dr. Cappuccio. Indirectly fabricated veneers can be more precisely planned, often giving better esthetic outcomes than composite or directly fabricated veneers. There are unique benefits associated with both direct and indirect veneers, so ask Dr. Cappuccio about which treatment is right for you.

ProcedureThe procedures for placing a direct or indirect veneer involves a few minor steps. For any veneer to be placed, a minor reduction of the tooth surface is required. You and Dr. Cappuccio can decided if anesthetic is required . The tooth is reduced to allow sufficient space for the veneer/veneers. The amount of reduction depends on the contour and alignment of the teeth, but the thickness of the veneer needs to be at 1.5mm. The next step of the procedure involves matching the precise shade of the veneer to the rest of the teeth. After the desired shade of the veneer is chosen, a digital impression is made using our digital scanner if a porcelain veneer is required. If a composite veneer is desired then a digital scan will not be required and the composite will be formed and bonded. The final steps involve a final evaluation of the fit of the veneer before cementation. In some cases it may be necessary to make a minor adjustment to the veneer to create the best possible result. This may include rounding off any edges or squaring off any excess porcelain. Once adjustments are made to the tooth surface, the final porcelain veneer will be cemented to the tooth and the procedure will be complete. Dr. Cappuccio will then instruct the patient to monitor the veneer and contact us if they observe any discomfort.

COSTS/insuranceVeneers are universally classified as a cosmetic procedure and coverage of the procedure by insurance is determined on a individual basis. The cost for a veneer is dependent on the extent of the work required. In all cases a composite veneer will be less costly than a porcelain veneer.
